Lively, glitzy yet misunderstood. The drag scene is riddled with misconceptions and at times has been ridiculed in popular culture.
But there's more to it than the preconceived notions that are, to begin with, unfair and inaccurate.
Helping to change all that is Manila Luzon, who rose to popularity after clinching runner-up finish in the popular American TV reality show, RuPaul's Drag Race, in 2011.
From AIDS awareness to championing the cause of the LGBTQ+ community, Manila Luzon uses her star power to educate people on these social issues.
She has also done so much to elevate and change people's perception of the drag community.
And she's poised to do more particularly here on the home front after he joined the Philippine-based events and talent management team Cornerstone Entertainment Inc.
“I know that a lot of the people in the Philippines grew up very religious, and I did too. And so, it was a very difficult process for me to come out and be okay with who I am and how I express myself. It is definitely a struggle that I know a lot of people go through,” the US-based Manila Luzon said in a statement.
“People that are turned off because of their religious background need to rethink… what love is about, what self-expression is about, what loving yourself is about, and being honest and true with yourself and being a good example of who you are.”
