Catriona Gray's reign as Miss Universe ended in 2019, but it didn't mean that she stopped representing her home country altogether.
In fact, Catriona has taken it upon herself to promote Filipino culture by patronizing and promoting local products from nearby Luzon to as far away as Mindanao.
When it comes to fashion, Catriona has given traditional Filipino attire a more modern touch, making it appealing to the younger generation who instantly think of the Terno and the Barong Tagalog as the only signature Filipino fashion outfit.
It helps too that there are now young designers today who are creative and innovative to combine modern with the old. Call it Filipiniana for the modern generation.
Catriona will now have more opportunities to wear her love for Filipino fashion as she was tapped by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) as its ambassador, and the face of National Arts Month (NAM).
The campaign will cover multi-sectoral fields including architecture, cinema, dance, literary arts, music, dramatic arts, and visual arts.
Catriona is also hosting NCCA's new web series titled Kultura 101. The program can be seen on the NCCA and Catriona's Facebook pages.
“It's a light-hearted web series where I share my passion for aspects of Filipino culture whether it be our textiles, our dances, our food,” said Catriona during the virtual press conference.
“These are all the things that through the platform of being online is something that we can share not just with [the] Filipinos here in the Philippines but also those who are abroad who haven't had the opportunity to come home. Those who feel away from their families.”
