As non-royals or 'commoners', we often wonder how it is to live like royalty, whether by birthright or affiliation through marriage.

The thought of enjoying enormous wealth, prestige, and respect is simply too intriguing for us to comprehend, the reason why we're fascinated by it one way or another.

This is also why we're caught off guard when we hear news of someone from the royal family turning 'rogue' and all of a sudden wanted nothing of that privileged life and status.

The recent (and controversial) sit-down interview of Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle with Oprah Winfrey might have either given us a clue on why someone would opt out or perhaps made us even more confused and skeptical.

The Buckingham Palace has yet to respond to the stories and accusations shared by Prince Harry and Meghan during the interview.

However, and as surprising as it may sound, losing titles and privileges are not uncommon among royals.

The reasons are wide and varied, with some stemming from personal choices, decisions made by those from the higher-ups or their parents, or simply out of circumstances based on law and traditions.

With that said, here are some of the royal personalities in recent memory who relinquished their titles and perks.
