The recent Barretto conflict started during the loss of their father, Miguel Alvir Barretto who died on October 15 at the age of 82.
On October 16, Claudine Barretto posted that Gretchen Barretto went to their father's wake. She wrote, "And then, We are complete @gretchenbarretto I'm so proud of you. I admire and love you more today... WELCOME HOME."

Around midnight of the same day, reports started to come out. According to the circulated posts, a physical fight allegedly took place at the wake.
News reports say that President Rodrigo Duterte was present at the wake to pay his respects. He then asked sisters Gretchen and Marjorie to shake hands. However, Marjorie was allegedly not happy to have a reunion.
On October 17, Claudine was brought to the hospital for dizziness and hand injury. Her hospitalization was reportedly due to what transpired at her father's wake.
The Instagram battle began between the sisters. Marjorie posted a lengthy caption which includes the following statement, "All these years, I have kept my peace and I always chose to ignore all the LIES that my sisters spread about me and my children. But nothing can get lower than this. Giving false statements to the press, and twisting stories about what really happened in my Father's wake is by far the most epic one."

Claudine shortly uploaded a cryptic post saying, "Are you proud of who you have become?" on Instagram. She also wrote in the caption, "I hope not." People assumed this is her response to Marjorie.

Gretchen hit back at Marjorie by airing her side. She uploaded a video saying that it is not fake news as claimed by Marjorie. She also added some alleged details that surprised the netizens.
Gretchen wrote, "FYI MY MOM SPOKE TO ME & ASSURED EVERYONE THAT SHE WILL TELL ALL REGARDING OUR FAMILY FEUD & THE DAY OF MY DADS BIRTHDAY & Who CAUSED MY FATHERS ATTACK .YOUR THREAT TO SUE ME FOR LIBEL ? I PLEAD NO ,IM SCARED.... AND AS TO MY BOYFRIEND WHO IS POWERFUL IN A BAD WAY ( like you say ) YES HE IS POWERFUL ( in a good way , Not bad as you claimed. Your boyfriend is also POWERFUL & certainly IN A VERY BAD WAY ,ICountless corruption cases i was told, NOT TO MENTION, NUMEROUS MOLESTATION CASES , AM I CORRECT? Gretchen continued to answer questions on her Instagram stories.
On the same day, Julia Barretto uploaded a message of support for her mother in her Instagram account.
Gretchen reacted shortly after Julia's post went viral. She said, "This is for @juliabarretto. The most dangerous liars are those who think they are telling the truth."

Gretchen addressed another issue that is circulating. According to several posts, Gretchen allegedly "stole" Atong Ang from her niece, Nicole Barretto. Several posts say that this was the reason why there's a physical confrontation at the wake.
According to Gretchen, Nicole is allegedly "fooling herself" with her statements. She said, "You want to hurt me, not protect Marjorie. Don't fool yourself."
Gretchen also noted that her partner, Tony Boy Cojuangco and their friend, Atong Ang will address the issues.
On Sunday, Gretchen posted on her social media account a new accusation on Marjorie. According to Gretchen, her sister Marjorie caused the heart attack of their father.
"Marjorie did not invite my mom to the gathering and that's what caused my dad's attack."

Atong Ang broke his silence on Monday, October 21. He said that Nicole was just like a daughter to him, "Talagang very close ako kay Nicole talaga naging parang anak ko na rin talaga 'yan."
He also discussed that he didn't have a relationship with Gretchen and Claudine.

Gretchen brought up new details about Marjorie and Julia.
She talked about the alleged contribution to the hospital bills of their father and taking the Subic home for PhP 500,000.
She said, "It's clear I was asleep on a plane ride. Nothing wrong with these photos. Fully clothed, no naked photos like of (Marjorie itchie-very)."

On October 23, Ruffa Gutierrez left a comment on Julia Barretto's photo. She said, "Freshhhhhh."
Gretchen didn't like Ruffa's message for Julia and reposted Julia's photo including the former beauty queen's comment. Gretchen then added her own text: "Sawsaw pa more Ruffy! Take it, take it."

Ruffa shared in her Instagram post that she's grateful to have family and true friends. Additionally, she uploaded her photo and wrote, "The next time they try to put you down, just remember that confidence is silent but insecurities are loud AF."
In an interview with Nelson Canlas, Claudine Barretto denied the allegations that she was the one who started the fight at their father's wake. She said, "First of all, hinding-hindi ko magagawa 'yun sa harap ng Presidente o kahit sino mang mas nakakatanda na nirerespeto ko."
