Maggie Smith, 'Harry Potter', 'Downton Abbey' star, dies at 89

Maggie Smith, the renowned actress known for her roles in the Harry Potter films, Sister Act movies, and Downton Abbey, passed away at the age of 89.
Maggie, one of Britain's most well-known actresses, passed away on Friday, September 27. She was recognized for her portrayal of Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films and as the dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey.

Publicist Claire Dobbs has released a statement regarding the actress' passing.
"It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September. An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end."
The statement added that Maggie's family is grateful for the kindness and care she received in her final days.
“She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unstinting kindness during her final days.”
