Mother Lily's granddaughter directs 'Gabi' MV of JK Labajo and Zild

“It was a wonderful experience.”
This was how Ten Monteverde described her experience directing Juan Karlos Labajo and Zild's newest music video for their song “Gabi.”
In an interview with GMANetwork.com and other selected entertainment media, the daughter of movie producer Dondon Monteverde mentioned that this project is her first gig after graduating as magna cum laude from New York University. Ten took up filmmaking as her major with two minors: psychology and art history.
For the young Monteverde, doing the music video was a dream come true especially since she has been following both OPM artists since she was in high school.
“I'm also a little bit of starstruck,” she said.
Then, she went on to express her admiration for JK and Zild.
“You know, with JK especially, it's such a good experience. He really put a lot of trust in me. He saw how passionate I was about my craft and that was enough for him to ask me to direct a music video. I didn't feel any pressure at all because there was so much creative freedom.
“I wrote and directed it and, you know, no questions asked. I just went with the flow and he loved it. I couldn't have asked for a better experience post college like, this was an amazing experience. It's really an amazing first directing gig for me.
“I was very lucky. It really was a dream come true. If there's one musician I really want to work with, it was JK. I think that he's an incredible musician and really knows what he's doing. He's very smart and creative. That's when I really aligned in terms of my own direction. The quality of work that he's putting out, that's the same thing that I want for myself.
“Zild, too, of course. Ever since IV of Spades and now he's doing solo, it's the same philosophy. I admire that the most. I'm so lucky I got to collaborate with them.”
As a newbie director, Ten believes that her personality shines through every project she's doing.
So, based on the “Gabi” music video, she described her style as something “fun and really crazy, quirky, rambunctious, and outlandish.”
She added, “I'm very visually-oriented, so every thought, every transition has to be planned out. When I was in college, I was very deep into production design work. I was working in the art department. I think that influenced how I became a director.
“Like now, I'm really focused in terms of compositions and color, and need to make sure that all of the details are in there. It just made me very meticulous. But in terms of my style, very colorful and fun details.”
