Actress Nadia Montenegro has taken legal action against several media outlets and a Senate employee following reports linking her to alleged drug use inside Senate premises.
According to GMA Integrated News, Nadia filed libel complaints before the Caloocan Prosecutor's Office over articles that allegedly tied her to illegal marijuana use.
She also lodged complaints for unjust vexation and violation of the Safe Spaces Act before the Pasay Prosecutor's Office against a Senate Sergeant-at-Arms.
Nadia, through her lawyer Atty. Maggie Garduque, firmly denied the accusations.
"Based on the truth of course and also the incident report of the Senate OSAA (Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms), ang nakita kay Nadia is vape - a grape flavored vape," Atty. Maggie clarified. "Unjust vexation because Nadia was dragged and grabbed her arm. She was dragged to a wall at the Senate Office."
Nadia herself recounted that she was warned by someone in the Senate to “be careful,” as some people were envious of her.
"And I said, 'Bakit?' Kung meron nga daw akong nakasalubong na staff ng isang senador sa hallway ng CR na nabugahan ko ng amoy marijuana. That is when I showed him my vape. Nagulat na lang ako that there was a photo that came out on TV and all over the news, na that was the time that I was apprehended, which is not true,” she explained.
Back in August, Nadia denied smoking inside the Senate ladies' room or using drugs but admitted to carrying a vape in her bag.
The same month, she resigned as Sen. Robin Padilla's political affairs officer, stressing in her letter that her decision was not an admission of guilt but a gesture of respect.
"To prevent this baseless issue from growing any further, I would rather remove myself from the spotlight and allow the Senate to focus on its important work,” she wrote.
