Protégé alumus Jimmy Nocon elevates party scene with extraordinary performances

In the pulsating world of entertainment, where music sets the tone and energy, DJ Jimmy Nocon stands out as a trailblazer, revolutionizing the party scene with his extraordinary performances.
With his unique blend of talent, innovation, and showmanship, Jimmy Nocon has carved a niche for himself as a DJ.
In an exchange of messages with GMANetwork.com, DJ Jimmy related how he found his purpose in this field.
Fans may recognize him as an aspiring celebrity who joined GMA Network's talent search program Protégé in 2011. He was part of the Mega Manila team under Mr. Roderick Paulate. Later, he was launched as a newbie actor, who had several guest appearances on TV shows.
How did Jimmy become a DJ?
“There was a period in my life when I was unsure about which career path to follow,” he told GMAnetwork.com.
“I considered several jobs and even tried working for our family business, but it didn't take long for me to realize that it wasn't my calling. Nag-search pa ako ng mga work na pwede kong ipursue, either related sa major ko or something na gusto ng family ko.
“I also ventured into the entertainment industry as an actor and a commercial model. Despite these experiences, I still felt unfulfilled and yearned for something more. I wanted something where I could truly excel, with only a few competitors in the field.
“That's when I decided to seriously pursue a career as a DJ. So, using my very first DJ equipment, a gift from my parents, I began performing at various small bars, especially the Crew Room in Makati. This venue became my practice ground, where I unexpectedly started to attract considerable attention.“
After performing to several bards and clubs, Jimmy got his biggest break when popular DJ Callum David discovered him.
“He offered to be my mentor and introduced me to the world of corporate events as a DJ, a move for which I am incredibly grateful. With his support, I began receiving numerous bookings, not just for clubs, but also for weddings, debuts, large company anniversaries, brand launches, and more. More opportunities followed, such as being booked for concerts, various music festivals, PVL, FIBA, and other out-of-town events.”
What sets Jimmy apart is his electrifying performances, where he seamlessly integrates electric drums and saxophone into his DJ sets.
This combination of live instruments with electronic beats creates an immersive experience for the audience, transforming any event into a concert-like atmosphere.
Jimmy said this was his way of being different from fellow DJs.
“With our fast-changing environment, mapag-iiwanan ka kung mananatili ka lang sa comfort zone mo.
“That's why I've thought of several ways to enhance and develop myself, exploring numerous avenues to evolve and refine my craft. Ayun nga, gusto ko kasi something unique, something that will distinguish me from other DJs.
“So lately, I've been focusing on delivering a concert-like experience, adding dynamic intros and captivating visuals to set the tone right from the start. Then to further elevate the experience, I often collaborate with a saxophone player and occasionally drum-beaters, in addition to my electric drums.
“Actually, it's not too difficult if you truly understand your music, but the challenge lies in finding the right saxophonist who can synchronize with my playlist. Nag-try akong makipag-collab or duet sa iba't ibang tao, but only few can really vibe or connect with me and my style of performance.”
Despite this, DJ Jimmy promises to improve his sets even further.
“I strive to offer a fresh experience, where listeners encounter something new and exciting with each set, ensuring that each performance feel like a new adventure for them. Para ma- achieve ko yung concert-like experience for my crowd, I really give my best performance with each set -- visually captivating intros, electric drums, and saxophone. I've also been trying to experiment and incorporate more live instruments such as percussions, violin, and guitar to add an extra layer of excitement and dynamism to the set.”
DJ Jimmy has now become one of the sought-after DJ, especially for high-profile events.
“It feels amazing that people recognize me, especially fellow artists. Like it validates all the hard work and passion na binubuhos ko sa bawat set at performance ko. There's nothing like seeing the crowd vibing with your music and getting props from big names,” he said.
However, behind the glitz and glamour lies a common struggle faced by many in the nightlife entertainment industry: missing important family events.
He confessed, “As a DJ, one of my toughest experiences has been missing important family gatherings, such as birthdays and even Christmas and New Year's Eve, lagi akong nasa out-of-town gig sa ganitong occassions.”
Nevertheless, DJ Jimmy still finds joy in making memories with partygoers.
“As a DJ, music allows me to share my talent with others. It provides a platform to connect with people, evoke emotions, and create memorable experiences through every beat and melody. Actually, ang pinaka-fulfillment na nakukuha ko ay yung reaction ng crowd kapag nakikita kong natutuwa sila, kapag napapasaya ko sila.”
He also noted in the end, “Through DJing, I've had experiences I never would have had in other jobs--performing alongside live instruments like the violin, saxophone, and guitar while showcasing my drumming skills, working while on vacation, traveling extensively, and meeting a wide variety of people.”
