Filipino singer-songwriter Rico Blanco is grieving the loss of his younger brother, King Blanco, who passed away on May 14, 2025.

In January 2025, Rico revealed that King had been diagnosed with advanced squamous cell carcinoma, a type of sinus cancer. He shared heartfelt memories of their close bond, describing King as his best friend and confidant. Despite the suddenness of the diagnosis, the family remained hopeful as King began treatment.

The news of King's passing was confirmed by his daughter, Daniela, and Rivermaya drummer Mark Escueta. Daniela expressed her love and gratitude for her father in a touching social media post.

"We love you always and forever, dad. Like you always say: "Thank you, love you," Daniela wrote on her Facebook post.

Mark shared a brief caption for King, "Paalam, kapatid," he wrote on Instagram, with a photo of King along with details of his funeral.

The family has announced that the funeral mass will be held on May 20 at Heaven's Park, followed by interment at Everest Hills Memorial Park in Muntinlupa City.

Rico Blanco, known for his contributions to OPM with hits like "Umaaraw, Umuulan" and "You'll Be Safe Here," has yet to make a public statement regarding his brother's passing. Fans and fellow artists have extended their condolences and support during this difficult time.
