OPM fans had a field day when some of the biggest acts in OPM performed one after another at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City last Aug. 4.
Sandara Park, SB19, Rico Blanco, Ebe Dencel, Cup of Joe, TJ Monterde, and the rising all-girl group G22 got everyone dancing and singing to their old and new hit songs.
In case you didn't know, these OPM stars are ambassadors of the Taiwanese computer hardware and electronics brand Acer. And the musical event aptly called Acer Day has been an annual tradition of the brand as a way of honoring the Filipino talent and giving thanks to its growing market in the country.
With the theme "AI'm Limitless," which is a nod to the brand's much touted AI technology, the concert drew an audience of over 20,000 people, both on-ground and online via a Facebook livestreaming.
One of the highlights of the show was Sandara Park's performance of her trademark "In or Out," the same song that endeared her to Filipino fans in the early 2000s, with G22. In the latter part of the show, the Kpop idol also performed with SB19, singing the song "Reset," which they collaborated on for Acer in 2023.
Take a look at the some of the exciting scenes from Acer Day 2024 at the MOA Arena:
Cup of Joe, a pop-alternative band popular among the Gen Z crowd, opened the show with "Wag na Lang," followed by their hit songs " Tingin" and "Estranghero." The band's vocalists Raphaell Ridao (left photo) and Edgar Gian (right photo) got the younger set singing to their songs.
Next up was singer-songwriter TJ Monterde, who wowed the crowd with "Mahika," "Tulad Mo," and "Palagi."
Multi-awarded singer-songwriter and OPM icon Ebe Dancel impressed the crowd with his hits “Hari ng Sablay,” “Makita Kang Muli,” “Wag Kang Umiyak,” and “Bawat Daan.” At one point, Ebe Dencel told the audience that during the pandemic, when there were no gigs for artists like himself, it was Acer that reached out to him to sing for some of the company's executives and employees at a very small venue.
OPM rockstar Rico Blanco took the crowd on a trip down memory lane as he rocked to "Antukin," "Umaaraw Umuulan," "Your Universe," "You'll be Safe Here," and "Kisapmata."
G22, known as the Female Alphas of P-pop, gave an electrifying performance of their songs "Boomerang," "Bang," "One Sided Love," and "Loka."
Sandara Park, an OG member of the Korean girl group 2NE1 (yes, the same group that announced their return), kept the positive vibe going with the songs "Dara Dara," "I Don't Care," and "I'm the Best+Can't Nobody."
SB19 showed everyone why they are called the "Kings of P-pop" by performing their hits "Gento," "Hanggang sa Huli," and "Crimzone." SB19 also performed an unreleased song titled "Kalakal" with rapper Gloc 9.
The performers for the night did not miss the chance to have a groufie shot with the jam-packed crowd of the MOA Arena.
Sue Ong Lim, Managing Director of Acer Philippines, said that the concert was a great way for them to connect to the younger market. "Acer Day helps connect us with our customers through music and different activities that allow them to try the products which provide tools that enable individuals to explore limitless possibilities and bring their ideas to life."
