'The Cosby Show' star Malcolm-Jamal Warner passes away due to drowning

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, known for his role in the groundbreaking '80s sitcom The Cosby Show, has passed away in a shocking drowning incident in Costa Rica.
According to reports, the 54-year-old American actor was caught in a rip current and pulled out to sea. Despite being rescued, lifeguards from the Costa Rican Red Cross later found him unresponsive.
He was pronounced dead and taken to the local morgue, the Central American nation's judicial investigation department (OIJ) confirmed.
Malcolm's family and representatives have not yet issued an official statement.
In the wake of the tragedy, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) paid tribute to the late actor on social media.
"#RestinPower, to NAACP Image Award winning actor, Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Your talent and spirit touched many lives, and your legacy will continue to inspire. Thank you for the memories and the impact you made in the world of entertainment," they wrote.
In 2012, Warner received the NAACP Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series award for his work in Reed Between the Lines.
Besides The Cosby Show, Malcolm-Jamal Warner was also known for starring in programs such as A Different World (1987), Jeremiah (2002), Sons of Anarchy (2008), and Suits (2011). He also hosted the Saturday Night Live in 1986.
He's also an award-winning star having received an Emmy nomination in 1986 and a Grammy Award in 2015 for Best Traditional R&B Performance for the song "Jesus Children."
