Dengue is a serious health problem that the Philippines faces every year.
According to my.clevelandclinic.org, Dengue fever is an illness spread by the bite of mosquitos infected with one of the dengue viruses. Symptoms are usually flu-like but can worsen to severe dengue (dengue hemorrhagic fever), a life-threatening condition.
In a report by GMA News Online in November 2024, the country recorded an 81% increase in Dengue cases from the first day of 2024 to November 16, 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
Data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed that the nation recorded 188,574 cases (Jan 1- Nove 16, 2023), but it jumped to 340,860 cases (Jan 1- Nov 16, 2024).
Unfortunately, based on the DOH monitoring, 881 people died from dengue.
