Cherie Gil

Philippine show business lost another gem this year, a name often revered by actors and actresses for being a brilliant talent--the great Cherie Gil. She was 59.

She is the daughter of showbiz luminaries Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil. Her siblings, the late Mark Gil and seasoned actor Michael de Mesa, are highly-respected actors, too.

But if there's one character that cemented Cherie's place into the halls of phenomenal actors, it was her role as Lavinia Arguelles in the film by Emmanuel H. Borlaza titled 'Bituing Walang Ningning' (1985), which made her an icon.

Of course, who can forget her famous line in the movie: "You're nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!"

Let us all look back and remember the beautiful career and life of the one and only Cherie Gil in this gallery.
