'Voltes V: Legacy' lead stars look striking in bold colors in new fanzine feature

Voltes V: Legacy lead stars Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Radson Flores, Matt Lozano, and Raphael Landicho graced the May 2023 issue of Nylon Manila fanzine.
They looked striking in bold colors, inspired by the stark colorful graphics of anime characters.
The theme is all about vibrance as it featured Pinoy's unfading love for the classic Japanese anime, Voltes V, which GMA adapted into a live-action series aptly called Voltes V: Legacy 46 years after its release.
"The classic, which initially aired in Japan from 1977-1978, became a favorite among many Filipinos. The story of a group of teens and their allies using advanced robots to stop the Boazanians from taking over the planet was the must-see show in the country until it was banned from airing during the Marcos Sr. dictatorship. Still, that didn't stop the youth of then from fawning over the show. And thanks to re-runs and dubbed versions in the decades since, generations of Filipinos have come to revere Voltes V in Pinoy culture," Nylon Manila wrote.
"To adapt such a series can be a risky move. But the team behind Voltes V: Legacy approached the adaptation with respect all while looking to deliver a project for the new generation. And at the heart of it all is the core five team, who are played by actors who know the history they are stepping into."
Voltes V fans were able to bring back their childhood memories as it came to life through Voltes V: Legacy.
Thanks to Miguel, Ysabel, Radson, Matt, and Raphael, Voltes V fans feel nostalgic as they relive the well-loved young heroes of their generation, Steve, Jamie, Mark, Big Bert, and Little Jon, composing the Voltes V team.
“Parang naging bata ako,” recalled Matt on his time on set. “I felt like I powered up, I felt like a superhero,” Raphael expressed on what it was like getting to wear the flight suit.
These five heroes serve as the emotional core of this modern adaptation. This aspect is what the cast felt was the biggest deviation of Voltes V: Legacy from the anime version.
“Kailangan namin bigyan ng layers ang mga characters. Mas mapapaniwala ang character kung may depth 'yung gumanap ng role,” said Miguel.
Turning literal 2D characters into actual people is the distinction that Radson strongly relates to when it comes to his portrayal of Mark Gordon. “You're going to see different ranges of emotions in Mark na will make it feel humanized as compared to the anime.”
Meanwhile, being the rose among the thorns, Ysabel thinks depicting a female ninja showcases what a woman can do.
She shared, “I already knew how big of a deal it was. Jamie is the only woman in the team, so I feel like it's going to be a good way to represent women in the show.”
Voltes V: Legacy airs weeknights, 8:00 p.m., on GMA Telebabad, GTV, I Heart Movies, Pinoy Hits, and online via Kapuso Stream.
