Known as the naughty StarStruck Survivor, Iwa Moto has proven in the past year that she has a balance of sugar and spice and everything nice. The end result is her many projects, legions of fans and the 10th slot on the Top Sexiest Women in the land. But she has so much more to give, based on what can be seen in her latest project, the Sine Serye version of “Kung Mahawi Man ang Ulap.” Text by KC Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio and courtesy of GMA Network. First try After playing a villain in Super Twins and dabbling in the telefantasya genre in Magic Kamison, Iwa is more than ready to give heavy drama a shot. How does she prepare? “Nagmo-motivate ako mag-isa. Mukha akong tanga sa kuwarto umiiyak-iyak lang ako, para ma-feel ko lalo. At saka siyempre gusto ko, maayos kong magampanan iyong role kaya sobrang inaayos ko iyong sarili ko like, ngayon ang aga-aga ko dito (on the set), tapos binabasa ko iyong script in advance,” she answers. She watched the original film to research for her character, Rita. “Pinanood ko iyong movie…thrice! Pinaulit-ulit ko siya. Muntik ko na nga ma-memorize kung ano iyong ginagawa ng character ko eh,” she shares. Rita’s character was originally played by the one and only Amy Austria. Iwa feels the pressure of giving justice to the role but is focused on bonding with her character and she does this by observing her similarities with Rita. “Eh kasi ano ako, well, bombshell, iyon ang tawag nila sa akin. Same time, medyo jologs din ako,” she notes with a smile. “Based (on) the film na napanood ko, ang character ko doon iyong bitchy type na girl na jologs. Tapos she gets what she wants using her body, iyong assets niya.” This is how she describes the character which she sees as her biggest break so far. And, it looks like the feedback on her initial efforts is positive. Even co-star Jeremy Marquez is in awe. “Naku wala ka man lang effort diyan, friend,” he tells Iwa. All it takes Determined to make it as a serious actress, she stresses “Kapag may gusto talaga ako, talagang pinagsisikapan ko makuha ko iyon, whatever it takes!” A sure sign of maturity, takes into account the lessons she has learned from her recent past. She enumerates the important instructions like a true student of showbiz: “Be professional. Huwag pasaway. Makinig. Never ever hesitate to ask a question. Concentrate, concentrate sobra! She says the situation could be “awkward” if she remains the same “pasaway” Starstruck survivor. But she also clarifies that there are some things that will never change. “Ako pa rin 'yung same old Iwa na makulit na pa-cute lang.
