It’s going to be a whole different ball game for Glaiza and Lovi as they headline the latest Sine Novela: Kaputol ng Isang Awit.
Both Glaiza de Castro and Lovi Poe are no strangers to the world of drama. In fact, both their first primetime projects on GMA-7 had the characters dealing with heavy drama: Glaiza with her role as Clara in Asian Treasures and Lovi with her Kristal from Bakekang. But the two admits that it’s going to be a whole different ball game when they headline the latest Sine Novela: Kaputol ng Isang Awit. Text and Photos by Jason John S. Lim. Interviews by Jessa Ericka C. Bien.
Kaputol ng Isang Awit is the story of a woman who has everything -- and her quest to complete her life by finding her father. The story is simple and poignant; but when it gets translated for the
Sine Novela genre, viewers can expect for the drama to escalate.
In their first starring roles,
Glaiza De Castro and
Lovi Poe play two women who grew up in different environments but want the same thing: to reach their dreams through singing.
“I’m really looking forward to play Sarah,” Glaiza admits during the story conference where the cast are being briefed about the characters they will be playing in the soap. The young actress says that she can connect with Sarah because of their musical background. “Kasi
musically-driven ako , passion ko ‘yung music.”
Lovi is especially excited with her role as well. Though, she reveals, this is actually her third project where singing is involved. But Lovi says, “I actually like that.”

Top-billing
Kaputol ng Isang Awit means the two will be sharing the spotlight -- but only one can be the pure protagonist. One of them has to be the antagonist. And for this project, that responsibility goes to the
Lovely Lovi.
“I can not say that they’re going to see a different side of me,” Lovi confesses, but she promises to do the best she possibly can for her character of Joanna.
Unlike Lovi, Glaiza knows people will see a whole different her when she begins portraying Sarah, the protagonist in the story.
“Hindi lahat ng tao alam na marunong akong kumanta,”
Glaiza begins, listing down the things that she will be doing on
Kaputol ng Isang Awit for the first time. “There’s gonna be a lot of crying scenes, na nagawa ko na before but not as dramatic as this (will be). Tapos, hindi pa rin ako nakikita ng lahat ng tao na inaapi-api. "
“So parang ang dami pa nilang pwedeng makita na hindi pa nila nakikita noon.” Glaiza adds that, especially for a project this big, “kasing gandang material nito,” it’s bound to be exciting for everyone.

The two are all set for their heavy drama project,
Lovi in particular, who mentions that she’s been ready for this since
Bakekang ended last year. “During
Zaido, I missed drama.”
Lovi explains that she’ll have to start all over again when it comes to the crying scenes though. “Kasi during
Bakekang, I got used to crying everyday and I don’t have to motivate myself na -- kasi sanay na sanay ka na.”
As for Glaiza, who has just come from playing the suddenly-emotional Sari of
Boys Nxt Door, the preparations she’ll be doing is more for her voice. She adds that she’ll also be watching the original film, so she can learn from what the original actress did for the role.
“Pressure kasi,”
Glaiza discloses, revealing her fears that she might disappoint not just her fans but the fans of the movie as well -- not to mention, the fans of Sharon Cuneta who originally played Sarah. “I don’t want to disappoint them, (but) I’m not trying to outdo (Sharon).”
Glaiza says she just wants to do justice to the role.
