Arthur Solinap may be an old name in the biz but with his fresh approach to each role, he keeps himself new in the public eye.
Arthur Solinap would not be considered a new face to show business but the roles he tackles can be considered fresh and novel as he looks into further refining his acting craft. – Text by Erick Mataverde. Photos by Mitch Mauricio. In Ako si Kim Samsoon, he is provided another opportunity to further refine his talent. "Ako si Chris, bali best friend ako ni Cyrus na si Mark Anthony Fernandez. Ako yung kabaliktaran ng ano nya, personality, si Mark kasi seryoso. Ako naman yung parang [maloko], ma-chicks," as he describes the personality of his role in the comedy. When asked about his transition from the more dramatic roles he tackled in the past (the character of a scheming Harry when he guested in Babangon Ako’t Dudurugin Kita), and if he had trouble adjusting the more light-hearted Kim Samsoon he states: "Hindi naman, madali lang, kasi hindi naman ganoon ka-bad yung role ko at saka sandali lang. Hindi naman sobrang asar yung tao sa akin eh." He is referring to the cathartic reaction some audience members have towards villainous characters and how some may not be welcome to them playing heroic or even quirky roles afterwards. However, since he has been playing varied roles for a time now, the latest of which were in Daisy Siete and MariMar, his shift in character on Kim Samsoon does not seem too drastic for Arthur. "Hindi naman ako talaga nag-adjust, ganoon din kasi ako sa totoong buhay eh. Pag ka-close ko naman yung tao sobrang maingay talaga ako at makulit," he says, finding similar traits from Chris and his real life persona. He even adds that one can be considered being bad in a good way which he explains as "clean fun". And this may be the reason why Arthur can pull of his character with effortless gusto. Work and Teamwork What does he feel to be alongside talented stars like Mark Anthony Fernandez and Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez ? "Si Mark, ano kasi nung una nailang ako. Di ba tahimik kasi si Mark. Pero pag nakausap mo sobrang [friendly]. Siya nga yung unang kumuha ng [celphone] number ko. [Then nagyaya siya,]'Pare basketball tayo.'" He recounts, finding a similar passion he shares with the Kim Samsoon leading man. He even jokes that no one can compare who is a better ballplayer between him and Mark. "Point guard siya ako center," he states. And his relationship with Regine is also as amiable than he was set to expect. "Yun nga hindi ko nga iniisip na Asia's Songbird yung katrabaho ko, sobrang generous. Kasi alam niyang nag-dadiet din ako, lahat ng pagkain na ginagawa niyang pang-diet shine-share niya sa akin." he says. "Kahit ilang weeks pa lang kami andyan na yung bonding. Walang kapressure-pressure sa set na ito eh," he further declares describing the general atmosphere during takes. Setting Goals When asked if he has next projects in-line and what his future plans are for these projects, he says: "Wala pa, pero gusto lagi ko kasi sinasabi sa mga [next project] ko, sana, gusto ko kasi action eh." Of course, it would not be complete if an aspiring leading man would not be asked about who would her dream leading woman would be. "Kahit sino naman pero dun nalang sa pinakacrush ko, si KC [Concepcion]. Sa Kapuso stars is Iza Calzado," is his reply, revealing that this actor has indeed set his sights towards bigger and better things insofar as his future in the business is concerned.
