Abel found his connection to music through his parents' playlist. He reveals his heart with every stroke of a guitar string and the beat of his drums.

Abel Estanislao has a deep relationship with music.

His passion for music started when he was young, with his parents’ playlist.

Unlike most teenagers who fancy hip-hop and house music, Abel favors the old songs.

He explains, “(Ang) sounds ngayon, like upbeat songs na kapag di mo binasa ‘yung lyrics kapag pinakinggan mo, hindi mo maiintindihan e. Pero ‘yung mga music dati, kapag kinanta, mararamdaman mo ‘yung feelings nila at malinaw ‘yung lyrics. Andun na agad ‘yung ibig sabihin e.”

Growing up with a family of musicians has a lot of advantages.

Abel shares that he learned music inadvertently : “Sa gitara, una ‘yung ate ko may gusto. So ako tinitingnan-tingnan ko lang siya. One time, hinawakan ko [‘yung gitara].

For guitar, Abel likes Larry Carlton, George Benson and - when he was younger - Santana. For singers, he idolizes James Ingram, Michael McDonald and Mr. Lloyd Umali.

Abel plays acoustic, jazz, electric and bass guitars and drums very well but his waterloo is the piano. “Nalilito kasi ako. Parang’ pag tinitingnan ko blank lahat! Black and white lang (ang) nakikita ko! Kaya ‘yun, huwag na!”

He is also open to the possibility of pursuing a career in music, saying that he is open to any genre. In fact he is looking forward to working with the people who taught him – his dad, mentor Billy Melendrez and Lloyd Umali.

Watch Abel in Villa Quintana, weekdays after Eat Bulaga.
