According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), shingles often affects those who have had chickenpox before.
For some mysterious reason, the virus awakens years or decades after. It is suspected that a weakened immune system might be the trigger for shingles.
Some of the symptoms of shingles are fever, chills, headache, rashes that turn into fluid-filled blisters, itching, stabbing or shooting pain, tingling in or under the skin and an upset stomach.
CDC also emphasizes that a person cannot get shingles from someone who has shingles, but one can acquire chickenpox from someone with shingles, if they've never had chickenpox before and are not vaccinated.
Furthermore, shingles is no longer contagious once the sores have dried out and have formed crusts.
