
A promising volleyball career cut short.
The Philippine volleyball community was shocked after the news broke out that Alas Pilipinas volleyball player Ike Barilea passed away last November 11 in a road accident in Negros Occidental. He was only 21.
In a report by 24 Oras and GMA Regional TV, Barilea sustained injuries to his chest and back, when his motorcycle collided with a bus in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
GMA Regional TV reporter Adrian Prietos interviewed PLt. Mansueto de Jose, deputy chief of the Cadiz City Police Station to share what happened to the young volleyball star.
“Na-miscalculate niya at natamaan ang biktima. Hindi niya natantya at nahagip ang likurang bahagi ng motorsiklo at tumilapon,” he said in his local dialect.
Ike's family were heartbroken especialy over the fact that Ike would no longer be able to pursue a career in volleyball, which he absolutely loved.
Angelic Barilea, Ike's aunt told GMA Regional TV, “Sa driver naman, sana hindi mo binangga. Ang sakit-sakit talaga.”
Meanwhile, Ike's lola Cheryl Javier stated, “Kung puwede lang sana, ako na lang kunin, hindi siya.”
