During the film's media launch on Sunday, December 21, Alden Richards announced a massive career milestone for him as he will not only star as the primary antagonist for the first time in the Hollywood action film Big Tiger, but he is also serving as one of the film's producers.
In his role as producer, he highlighted his thrill at showcasing the Philippines to a worldwide audience. He believes it is the perfect time for the country's beauty to be seen globally and shared his pride in the team working on the project.
“I think it's high time for the Philippines to also be shown in a film that would be released globally. We have so much beauty in the country and I'm just so proud of how the movie turned out, and of course, these very talented people I was able to work with,” Alden said.
He also shared that taking on the role of producer has opened his eyes to new learning opportunities, extending beyond acting to the intricate work that brings a story to life behind the camera.
Furthermore, Alden revealed that this project marks his very first time portraying a villain.
“It also opened my eyes to a lot of things that there's a lot of things to be learned in terms of production and of course, being part of the film, on the aspect of being an actor, is also a great opportunity because it's my first time to be able to act on project that would be released globally, and the first time playing an antagonist role in this film,” he said.
Alden also shared that he has been eager to play a villain for quite some time, calling it a 'dream role' he's finally able to fulfill.
“Since it's my first time to be able to play an antagonist role in a project, it's also new to me. I've been playing the protagonist for almost a decade of my career, but the beauty I've been dreaming about playing this kind of role, it's been a dream of mine to also be the bad guy in storytelling,” he said.
He shared his dedicated approach to preparing for this career-first role as villain. By closely working with director-writer Keoni Waxman, Alden aims to perfectly capture the essence of his character, John Lynch.
“In terms of prep, constant communication with the director; Keoni Waxman is our director and writer, so it's a one stop shop for me,” Alden explained.
“A lot of questions on how does he want the character to be done and to be executed, and at the same time, and bringing in back knowledge of the previous villains that I've watched in the past; how to be different, how to make this new, and there's a lot of new experiences in terms of feelings and emotions, body language. Since it is an action film, there's a lot of stunt preps, I think that really contributed on how I was able to make John Lynch full-circle in the story,” he continued.
Following his successful showbiz anniversary concert, fans have much to look forward to from Alden next year, most notably his portrayal of John Lynch in the film Big Tiger, which is slated for a 2026 theatrical release. He will be joined by fellow Kapuso star Max Collins, along with international actors Byron Mann, Katherine McNamara, and Luke Goss.
