
Alexandra “Alex” Eala has recently made history by becoming the first-ever Filipino player to win a main draw match in a Grand Slam during the Open era.
Alex turned the tables around as she defeated world no. 14 Clara Tauson of Denmark, 6-3, 2-6, (7(13)-6(11) Monday (Philippine time) at the US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York.
The battle which was watched by over 8,000 people in the crowd lasted for two hours and 36 minutes.
As her performance made national history, she also earned tears of joy on court--celebrating both winning and legacy.
In her post-game interviews, Alex reflected on her victory and said that the match was a special one for her.
She said, “It's so special. To be Filipino is something I take so much pride in.”

PBBM said the Filipina tennis ace is only getting started.
“Congratulations [Alex Eala]! Kasama mo ang buong Pilipinas sa bawat laban mo. Sama-sama naming isisigaw sa mundo ang galing ng Pilipino,” he added.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old tennis player turned professional in 2020.
