'Jeopardy!' host Alex Trebek was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2019.

Game show host Alex Trebek of Jeopardy! died on Monday, November 9 at the age of 80 years old.

"'Jeopardy!' is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Alex.” tweeted the show on Monday

While the cause of death of the Canadian-born quizmaster has not been detailed, it can be recalled that in March 2019, Alex revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

In July, Alex said his chemotherapy was “paying off” while he still felt fatigued but was looking forward to taping the show again. In the same month, he published his memoir titled The Answer Is…: Reflections on My Life.

This October, it was reported that Alex underwent surgery related to his cancer treatment but returned to the show right after.

Following the news of his death, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau paid tribute to the famed Jeopardy! host and said that the world “lost an icon.”

“Almost every night for more than three decades, Alex Trebek entertained and educated millions around the world, instilling in so many of us a love for trivia,” he wrote.

“My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who are mourning this tremendous loss.”

In the history of Jeopardy!, Alex had hosted over 8,200 episodes in 37 seasons from its revival in 1984 until his death.

He had also hosted a number of other game shows in his time, including The Wizard of Odds, Double Dare, High Rollers, Battle Stars, and so much more.
