Quezon City Councilor Alfred Vargas shared another update regarding the alleged bullying case involving their son.
Amid the criminal complaint they filed against the alleged bully's parents, Alfred met with organizations and advocates focused on child and human rights.
“Malinaw. Klarong-klarong usapan. Taos-puso tayong nagpapasalamat sa Child Rights Network (CRN), Commission on Human Rights (CHR), at Child Rights Center sa kanilang suporta sa ating kampanya laban sa bullying,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
Along with his wife, Yasmine, Alfred discussed bullying with representatives.
“Nalaman natin na ayon sa datos mula sa Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), ang Pilipinas ay isa sa may pinakamataas na insidente ng bullying sa buong mundo, at mahigit 1/3 ang nakakaranas nito linggo-linggo sa iba't ibang paraan. Napagkaisahan nating magtulungan para palawakin ang pagtugon sa bullying. Ito ay hindi lamang responsibilidad ng pamahalaan—ito ay responsibilidad nating lahat,” he added.
Photos from the meeting showed the couple engaging with advocates, with some images capturing emotional moments during the discussion.
Last April 13, Alfred and his wife filed a criminal complaint against the parents of a minor who allegedly bullied and physically harmed their son during swimming training sessions.
The complaint alleges a pattern of behavior in which the respondents' minor child repeatedly submerged their son in the pool.
According to the filing, these incidents occurred repeatedly despite efforts to raise the issue and to request that the child's parents intervene.
The situation reportedly escalated when Alfred and several others witnessed another incident during a warm-up session, where the minor allegedly pushed their son near the side of the pool, nearly causing injury ahead of a competition.
On April 20, the couple also filed complaints for 20 counts of cyber libel against individuals behind what they described as persistent online attacks and “maling paratang” directed at their household.
The decision came after months of what the couple described as a smear campaign that had deeply affected their children.
