The stage is set for the final showdown, and the remaining Idol aspirants got to speak to us about what thoughts are going through their minds as they get closer to the dream they have been longing for since the onset of their journey. Text by Erick Mataverde. Photos by Jason John S. Lim. The Final Three speak up As we get closer to the Pinoy Idol Finals, from the penultimate five remaining contenders, three of which will figure in a three-way battle next week, share their own views on what it really takes and if they have the chops to outlast their rivals. Enhancing her stage presence and still delivering her song the way she always does is Jayann Bautista's simple strategy. "Siguro magse-step up ako. Magse-step up pa. I think I'm gonna dance talaga. I wanna dance and sing at the same time," she says. starsAlso, among the two whom she has to compete against in the finals, she acknowledges the one who may give her a run for her money. "I think Ram, like [what] I've said, ibang genre kasi siya its rock," she declares and adds that she has a fighting chance against Gretchen Espina: "Kasi pareho kami ng genre." This sentiment is also echoed by Ram Chaves when he was asked the same question. "Si Jayann, [kasi] total performer, beterana, may dalawang album na dati," he states. And when asked what can act to his advantage, he mentions that his liveliness due to a medical condition he has may make or break him: "Hyperthyroidism. Puede siyang maging advantage puede siyang maging disadvantage." Becoming more introspective, he declares: "I wanna win this thing. I wanted to win this thing. Ang tagal kong pinaghirapan yung magka-experience sa music. Ang ginagamit kong advantage ngayon yung pagiging band singer ko. May edge lang ako sa kanila [ng] kaunti kasi maliban sa rock band singer ako, wedding singer ako. Maganda [ang] combination." About his future plans, it seems this wild card has it laid out for him. "Music. Album. Pangarap ko magka-album. Mabenta nationwide. Kung puede international, why not? Gusto ko i-share yung mga composition sa lahat ng Pilipino nang marinig nila." Gretchen, on the other hand, looks to be concentrating more on the here and now. "I wasn't expecting to be in the top three. After everything that has happenend, I was really overwhelmend with emotions. Parang kanina po sobrang hindi ko alam kung anong papakita kong emosyon kasi hindi ako makapaniwala," she says, alluding to her feelings following her not-so-stellar number and the judge's lukewarm reaction afterwards during the last Gala Performance the night before. starsBut she also feels ready to move on after the surprise of being included in the Final Three. "It feels great, it feels treasured, pero I think now na nandito na kami we really have to step up, siguro mostly talaga just to push ourselves to do more," she says. As to whom would she consider her closest rival, she says, "That would be Ram, kasi I think he's one of the performers who have shown his own genre, his own music talaga, na sobrang tumatak sa mga tao na 'Ay si Ram, rock yan!' And I think he showcases a great ideal sa rocker here in the industry and I think he deserves a break." Furthermore, like Ram, Gretchen also plans to turn the tables by turning some of her shortcomings in her favor. "Siguro kaya nga sinasabi nila na disadvantage for me is my emotions kasi sobrang emosyonal ako. But I think I can really use that as my 'alas' here in the competition. And I think compared sa kanila, voice-wise, mine is huskier and medyo low yung boses ko and I think magugustuhan nila [yun]," she further elaborates. Out, but thankful, nonetheless The Top Three weren't only the ones on hand to give their thoughts on this eventful Idol journey, thus far. Kid Camaya, together with Daryl Celis, was declared out of the running that elimination night, found the time to give his own view, saddened but grateful still for his experiences in Pinoy Idol. stars "I feel blessed for sobrang having gone this far," he comments. "But at the same time may kaunting panghihinayang. Kasi I'm there eh, I'm very close to getting there. Pero wala eh, all I can say is thank you because I could not ask for anything more, because thousands out there are really dying to be in my [position]. Sobrang ano, wala, wala akong reklamo." He adds that he felt he gave the best that he could muster. "That's [what is] important to me, kasi everytime I perform naman I always want to give the cleanest [performance] if possible. Siguro nalulungkot ka na [that] you were one of the judges' bet for Top Three, then you lost. 'Yun lang, pero hanggang dun lang siguro." Also, Kid, who expects either Jayann or Ram to be the first Pinoy Idol gives this parting word: "I think it's the beginning of a bigger journey kung baga, not just the Idol stage. This time, we'll have a good fight outside the Idol stage." Find out who will be hailed the first ever Pinoy Idol!
