Alternative rock band Budol drops their single 'Lagi Kang Ganyan' on Spotlight Music Sessions on Friday, January 12.

While the term “lagi kang ganyan” denotes a negative term, Budol, composed of Michaell Bon on the guitars and lead vocals, Vincent Sy, bassist and vocals, and Krish Pincaro on keyboards says otherwise in their interview with GMANetwork.com.

According to Michaell or Mike, who wrote the song, it depicts unconditional love, and the title, while it normally denotes a negative term, is given a positive meaning instead.

“Ang naisip ko is, siguro naging inspiration ko is 'yung mga nakikita kong mga mag-partners o mag-asawa o magkaibigan na kung ano man 'yung flaws ng isa't isa, tanggap nila,” he explained.

Krish added, “'Yung mga usually negative, parang tanggap mo, mahal mo pa rin. Kasama 'yun sa mga mamahalin mo.”

Vince added that if you truly love the person, you won't have a choice but to accept their flaws which is why, according to Mike, it's called unconditional love.

The band also shared how they first started. According to Mike, he has worked with Krish on wedding gigs while he worked with Vince together with a former band. And while they have played together on a few occasions, their band truly formed while they were performing on a cruise ship.

“We started nung 2019. A year before the pandemic start, nagkaroon kami ng opportunity to play at a cruise ship na nagta-travel within nearby Asian countries,” Mike said.

“Nung nag-start kami dun, naisip namin masaya 'yung bonding e, masaya 'yung kwentuhan, although different 'yung influences pagdating sa music pero meron kaming goal as instrumentalists na maglabas ng mga original materials so dun nag-start,” he continued.

He added that they were still playing on the cruise ship, which they later revealed to be their greatest achievement when they started to plan about getting together as a band and releasing their original songs.

“Kasi parang the whole time, since nung bata pa kami, cover band kami e. Wala kaming chance na maglabas ng original creation so siguro ito 'yung perfect time for us to release our own music,” Vince said.

He added that even though they have different influences, their music meld together to create something new and original.

Krish added, “Iba-iba kasi kami ng influences and we try our best 'pag nagko-collab kami hindi mawawala 'yung individual identity rin namin sa music. Kino-complement namin 'yung iba-ibang influences namin into creating something different.”

When asked what advice would they give to new bands, they all had one thing to say, “Gawin mo lang.”

To elaborate, Mike said, “Ako, para sa'kin, keep on dreaming. Kasi pagka patuloy 'yung pangarap, hindi mawawala 'yung passion. So 'pag nandun 'yung passion, definitely magpupursige ka. Mag-research, mag-ensayo, mag-create ng sarili mong craft. 'Yun, derederetso na 'yun.”

Krish meanwhile, said that it's important to just do what you want and to not overthink it. He added that when writing songs, it's also important to be thru to yourself and to not write just because it's in.

“Find your style, tapos stick to it. Pero siyempre, mag-evolve pa rin, hindi pwedeng mag-stick ka lang sa comfort zone mo,” he said.

Vince also mentioned that what's important is that you tried to do it. “Kasi hindi mo alam, 'yung ginagawa mo, baka isa dun maganda or maappreciate ng tao. Wala kasing formula e, hindi natin alam.”
