amanda griffin on being sober curious

What does being “sober curious” mean exactly? Find out its meaning and who else has come forward other than Amanda Griffin-Jacob.

Former model and VJ Amanda Griffin-Jacob, who's now an International Justice Mission Ambassador and founder of website Glam-O-Mamas, revealed in an Instagram post that she's celebrating one year of being sober curious.

She opened her Instragram caption with: “It's my 1 year anniversary of being sober curious [not drinking].”

Amanda said she first encountered the term from the posts of health and wellness coach Melissa Woods and realized it is what she's been doing since February 2020.

She then explained what the term means.

Part of her caption read: “Sober curious simply means that you've chosen to avoid alcohol for personal or wellness reasons. It involves curiosity about the reasons you choose to drink.”

The “plant-based mom of four,” as she describes herself in her IG bio, went on to share her journey to being sober curious.

“Over the last decade my drinking had been pretty minimal [I was pregnant or breastfeeding most of those year] but in between those times I did enjoy a glass or two [sometimes 3] of red every so often. With David and most especially my girlfriends!

“Last year, I embarked on one of my monthlong cleanses which I do a few times year and cut out alcohol among other things [this was after a lot of fun Christmas merriment and an indulgent [food and wine] ski trip in Japan].

“It lasted until March when the pandemic really started gaining momentum and lockdowns were being implemented.

“I made the decision right then and there to not drink through the lockdown as I knew it would be quite a challenging time [hello homeschool and stay at home orders!] and I didn't want to turn to alcohol for stress relief.

“After we finished our lockdown in Singapore I was 4 months dry and had no desire to drink so I decided that I wouldn't until I wanted to. The longer I don't drink, the less I feel any need to do so

“Is it forever? I don't know…but for now I LOVE not drinking [much to the chagrin of my girlfriends].”

Suprisingly, some of Amanda's peers have come forward and shared their own story about being sober curious.

Model-TV host Joey Mead King, who's also an animal rights advocate, revealed that she has been sober curious since October.

Joey said in her reply to Amanda's post: “I relate Mands..I havent had alcohol since Oct and not having any to help my body heal from Gerd and its part of my gut health guidance ..I dont miss it..

"I lost interest in wine early last year and I prefer sake if ever.

"Best wishes through your awareness journey”

Traveler and writer Stephanie Zubiri also became sober curious around the same time as Joey.

Stepahie said in her reply to Amanda: “I went sober in October for the first time!

"For the longest time and realised I was such in a happy and good place in my life and didn't need that buzz to enjoy! Back to drinking wine though for pleasure because I love it haha”

And even fellow model-turned-entrepreneur Bianca Elizalde shared her remarkable sober curious story.

Bianca said in her reply to Amanda: “Going on 17 years this March for me!!!!! 🏻🏻🏻”
