Director Rico Gutierrez shares his thoughts on his latest venture in the world of television.
People have gotten used to watching documentaries present facts in the serious manner. But who says information always has to be delivered in a somber tone? The advent of infotainment proves it is possible to educate people in a fun way. GMA 7’s Kap’s Amazing Stories is a perfect example. Director Rico Gutierrez shares this about his latest project. “Kap’s Amazing Stories (is) something new. Amazing talaga ang mga videos, amazing talaga ang mga stories. Marami siyang pinag-uusapan.” Following the theme of National Geographic Channel’s Most Amazing Moments, the show features extraordinary and almost unbelievable events that involve animals, humans and forces of nature. A self-confessed fan of well-made documentaries, Direk Rico says he really is amazed with the concept of the show. “It’s really interesting, it’s really amazing.” Pinoy Style Kap’s Amazing Stories boasts of an exciting twist that lures people into appreciating it more. Direk Rico shares it is a conscious effort to prop the show with computer-generated effects and visuals. “Para (maging) interesting din” he says. “Kasi seryoso na 'yung content mo, seryoso pa 'yung mga spiels ‘di ba? Mas maganda na 'yung may kaunting visual.” Injecting fun into a rather serious program is also the reason why the host, actor-turned-senator Bong Revilla Jr. carries over his comic character, Kap, from his former sitcom Idol ko si Kap . “Kasi he’s known to be very funny and I don’t think we want to shock the people kaagad na from being a funny person biglang naging seryoso” Direk Rico explains. “So 'yung mga spiels niya meron pa ring touches of antics” he adds. Working with Senator Bong on his first hosting job is likewise an amazing element in the show. “Okay naman siya. At first, kabado” Direk Rico discloses. But he explains, “kasi siyempre, mahirap din mag-ganito eh. Mahirap ding magbikas ng tama. Tapos, biglang our second and third episode, medyo at home na siya.” Direk Rico has directed numerous shows for the Kapuso network, but he still considers this project as a special experience. “Masaya.
