There’s no denying that after four years, "StarStruck" remains the most prestigious talent search in the country. It has encouraged thousands of young people to believe in the power of their dreams, and produced some of the best young stars in the industry today. Text by: Jessa Ericka C. Bien. Interviews by Jessa Ericka C. Bien, Jillian Q. Gatcheco and Jason S. Lim. But StarStruck’s success would not be possible if not for the presence of its discerning judges: acclaimed director Louie Ignacio, veteran actress Lorna Tolentino and expert talent manager Douglas Quijano (who replaced the comedian/host Joey de Leon). As they continue to shower star-hopefuls with their striking comments and astute observations, they have earned the power to make the contestants snap back to reality – even when it sometimes hurt. These judges are indeed three of the most popular names in the industry, not only for the viewers who ardently follow their bet’s journey to stardom, but most especially among the Survivors and Avengers themselves. We asked this batch’s contenders who they think is the nicest (and scariest) of the three judges, and their answers were quite interesting. Scary, eh? Notorious for his straight-forwardness and calculating observations, Director Louie Ignacio got the most votes for Scariest Judge. “Parang seryoso lagi kapag nasa council, ang hirap basahin ng personality” Paulo Avelino explains. To which Rich Asuncion adds, “Siya ‘yung may hawak ng attitude box. But the contestants understand that his sternness is all part of his work, and there still remains the lovable side of him. Really Nice? The reserved and soft-toned Douglas Quijano and the motherly Lorna Tolentino are the frequent choices for the Nicest Judge. “Si Mr. Douglas po, kasi he’s quiet lang” Stef Prescott states without thinking twice. And with a sweet giggle, Jewel Mische says Douglas Quijano is “really cute and lovable”. Yet for Kris Bernal and Jewel, this nice lady is also somewhat tricky to read. No Worries While some of them voiced out preferences, others decided to play it fair. Finding the scariest or the nicest judge is out of the question, as each one exhibits pleasant traits that make the judges even more fitting for their posts. He goes on by saying that the judges are even more admirable, as “napaka-humble pa rin nila kahit nandoon na sila sa posisyon nila”. Catch the judges as they become more discerning now that the contestants are walking their way to Danger Eight, as the final eight survivors are being called.
