Bing Loyzaga appreciates working alongside youthful artists as it motivates her to hone her craft even more.
Para kay Bing Loyzaga, ang papel niya as Doña Francia Valderama in "Paano Ba Ang Mangarap?" simply adds another notch to her craft, and further enhances her villainy. However, off-screen siya ay very excited to work with the younger set of actors, and this she considers as a two-way learning process. Text Erick Mataverde. Photo by Mitch S. Mauricio. stars
Araw-araw siyang napapanood as a scheming and deceitful woman sa top-rating Sine Novela Paano Ba ang Mangarap?, and viewers all over cannot but help feel for the characters na inaapi ng todo ni Doña Francia. But for the talented Ms. Bing Loyzaga, this is just as she expected. "Well, with this kind of face, mahirap namang mag-portray ng mabait. Mas challenge sa akin pag mabait kasi ang hirap pamukain ‘yung mukha ko na mabait. Playing a villain is not really hard for me it comes naturally," she jokingly says. But considering na ang isa sa huling gimampanan niya ay ang mabait na si Esperanza sa Marimar, may challenge pa rin ang kanyang current role. "Of course, I haven't played a villain for quite some time, so now that I'm going back, parang nakakapanibago. Pero…kahit na matagal na ako, somehow, in the business, any role that I accept, big or small, is always something to look forward to." In particular, she looks forward to "being bad again. I look forward to working with new people, and always looking forward to working with Direk Joel Lamangan, one of my favorite directors, with the same staff with whom I’ve worked with also before here in GMA. Sinasamba Kita was our previous show, so everything is something to look forward to. There's nothing that doesn't excite me about the show. That's one thing that I'm happy about kahit na nakakapagod at nagtatalak ako [sa mga scenes]." Working alongside youthful talents does add vigor to her portrayal. "Talagang tinatapon ko si Jennylyn (Mercado)! Monster na! Monster na! Transform! So, it's fun kasi those are the things that you don't get to do on a regular day. Nakakapagod! Nahahalata ko ‘yung edad ko after a while! (laughs) Para bang…ang tanda ko na for this! So much fun, so much fun and very fulfilling! "And, of course, si Jennylyn is somebody, so ayoko siyang masaktan kasi parang matitiklop ko siya ng ganon tapos mabubulsa ko siya -- ‘yung para bang ang frail-frail niya. Then you know I try to tell her to go with the flow para hindi siya masaktan ‘no? Feeling ko pag ini-slap ko siya parang mawawala ‘yung half of [her] face,” palokong dagdag pa niya. stars
She also notes, "Acting-wise, I can not ask anything from this younger generation I'm working with. Si Chynna (Ortaleza), [she] plays a younger version of a villainess, not naman of me! Kasi ako na yung monstrous version (laughs). Darating ka dyan! Actually magvo-volt in kaming mga monsters!" Does this mean she is accepting the fact that she is already considered a veteran in the biz? "Nandun na talaga ako. Kailangan ko na aminin yan! 'Wag na tayo magkaila di ba?! Parang sasabunutan ko na sarili ko kung mag-arte pa 'kong hindi totoo kasi matanda…hindi [pala] ‘matanda’, matagal na rin naman ako. Pero ‘yun na nga, it's encouraging to work with these children…not children, adolescents…They're really great to work with and the staff is wonderful! Nakikita mo naman parati silang may tama. May tama, may sayad, ganon!" You can catch Bing’s villainous ways in Paano Ba Ang Mangarap?, weekdays sa GMA Dramarama sa Hapon.
