Angel Aquino asks the government to take serious steps against deepfake porn.
Angel was present at the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality hearing on Thursday, September 4, where Senator Risa Hontiveros led discussions on the growing concern over deepfake porn.
Deepfake porn involves digitally altering images or videos to replace one person's face with another's in explicit content.
In the session, Angel recounted her ordeal of her face being unlawfully used in a sex video through artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
“It was dehumanizing. It was [a] digital assault, one that leaves no bruises on the skin, but strips away one's dignity in the most obscene manner imaginable,” Angel stated.
Social media influencer Queen Hera voiced deep concern after discovering that a photo of her child had been exploited on the dark web.
"This is a grave violation of dignity, privacy, and human rights. As a mother, it has been heartbreaking and deeply painful to witness how this exploitation has affected her well-being, her reputation, and her safety."
Likewise, Angel asked to also punish those who share deepfake videos and images.
“These deepfake photos and videos hurt and violate real people. I urge you all to take action. Punish the perpetrators, those who share and repost, the websites that host it, the platforms that turn a blind eye while it spreads,” the actress said.
