Viva Artists Agency took immediate steps to protect their prized talent, It's Showtime host Anne Curtis, after they found out that a deepfake video of her has been circulating on Facebook.
According to techtarget.com, Deepfake technology is "a type of artificial intelligence used to create convincing fake images, videos, and audio recordings," and that "Deepfakes often transform existing source content where one person is swapped for another. They also create entirely original content where someone is represented doing or saying something they didn't do or say."
Anne's talent management agency posted a screenshot of the deepfake content being used on Facebook and warned the public about it.
In an official statement, Viva said, “It has come to our attention that a certain Facebook page is using the image of one of our artists, Anne Curtis-Smith, illegally without any authority whatsoever.
“Please be informed that Anne is not connected in any way to the said Facebook page. The video is a DEEPFAKE, a product of AI (Artificial Intelligence), and was made without consent of Anne nor of Viva.”
“We do not condone such acts, and those found responsible shall be dealt with severely and held civilly and criminally liable to the maximum extent possible under the law.
“We urge the public to be vigilant and discerning of online scams and illegal uses of AI to mislead and spread fake information.”
Recently, award-winning Kapuso comedian Michael V. has also advised his fans and online followers that a fake of video him generated using artificial intelligence (or A.I) was uploaded on social media for a fake endorsement.
Direk Michael asked everyone to be wary of these kind of content online. He said, “MAGING ALISTO. HUWAG MAGPA-LOKO.”
“Ang Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), masyado nang tumatalino. Dapat matuto tayong maging mapanuri kung ang pinapanood o binabasa ay fake o totoo. Please REPORT and share.” he added.
