Direk Antoinette Jadaone on struggles of filmmaking

In an episode of 'Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast' with Direk JP Habac, popular director Antoinette Jadaone turned emotional discussing the difficult realities of being a filmmaker.

The usually jolly and funny Direk Antoinette Jadaone turned emotional in a recent episode of the popular Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast.

Antoinette Jadaone, who is also known as Direk Tonet, the filmmaker behind several blockbuster ang popular films like That Thing Called Tadhana, Alone/Together, and Sunshine opened up about the struggles of doing films.

In the podcast episode 'Kamustahan with Toñet and JP Feat. Midnight Girls', she and Direk JP Habac were reviewing Midnight Girls, the latest film of Irene Villamor starring Jodi Sta Maria, Loisa Andalio, Jane Oineza, and Sparkle actress Sanya Lopez.

While discussing the movie, the conversation delved into the struggles being faced by creative people like filmmakers.

Direk Tonet stressed.

She then revealed that they decided to release the podcast once a week, since they have to return to their first-love, which is creating movies.

Pag ni-record mo after one week, ie-edit, ire-release pagka release nakikita mo agad yung comments.”

Talking about the process of filmmaking, Direk Tonet even described it as a heartbreaking process and you have no control over what people will feel about your output the moment you release it to the public.

She further elaborated, “Pag pelikula, hindi e. Months, maybe sometimes years, of making it.

“It's a very heartbreaking process, pero kapag nakakapanood ka ng mga pelikulang maganda like [points to JP] tuloy mo na Midnight Girls or other films. Parang, oh my god! This is cinema.”
