Inspired by the peace process in Mindanao, Apl.de.Ap and Maguindanaon artist Datu Khomeini Camsa Bansuan bring together rap and regional musical influences in their collaboration, “Pinoy United.”

Apl.de.Ap and Maguindanaon artist Datu Khomeini Camsa Bansuan have teamed up for a song inspired by the peace process in Mindanao, bringing together rap and traditional regional influences.

Apl.de.Ap said the collaboration began with his desire to create music reflecting the situation in Mindanao at the time. He then reached out to Datu Khomeini, whom he admired as an artist from the region, to explore the possibility of creating a song about peace.

“I was inspired to write about what's happening in Mindanao, with the peace process at that time, and I reached out to Datu Khomeini.

“He's an amazing artist from that region. I reached out to him and see if he wanted to collaborate and create a song for the peace process,” Apl said.

The collaboration resulted in “Pinoy United,” a track featured on Apl's solo EP, “PPP (Power Pilipino People).” The song combines Apl's rap with Datu Khomeini's version in Maguindanaon, bringing contemporary hip-hop together with the artist's regional musical roots.

Datu Khomeini said the song draws inspiration from actual events and circumstances in Mindanao, making its message particularly relevant.

“Napakaganda po ng kantang ito dahil ginawa po ni Apl 'yung rap tapos sa akin naman sa Maguindanao version, 'yung kanta po is napaka-hango po sa nangyayari po talaga sa Mindanao, and of course rito rin po sa atin,” he said.

He recalled how Apl emphasized the importance of releasing the song at the right time.

“Napaka-timely po nung sabi ni Apl, 'Kailangan ipalabas natin 'yung kanta,'” Datu Khomeini said.

He added that the track carries a message for Filipinos, particularly members of the Moro communities in Mindanao.

“Napakaganda po nung kanta, 'yung mensahe po, sa bawat Pilipino, lalong lalo na sa mga kababayan nating Moro sa Mindanao po,” he said.

Through “Pinoy United,” the two artists aim to share a message rooted in Mindanao's experiences with a broader Filipino audience.

The track is part of “PPP,” which also features Apl's collaborations with Bamboo and J. Rey Soul.
