Ariel Rivera and Gelli de Belen

Ariel Rivera and Gelli de Belen share how they've been keeping their marriage strong for 26 years.

In the October 30 episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, the King of Talk had showbiz couple Ariel Rivera and Gelli de Belen as his guests.

The married couple tied the knot in 1997, and have two children, Joaquin and Julio.

They described how little things make a difference in making their marriage strong.

Ariel shared, "We are genuinely interested in each other's lives outside our relationship. I do things on my own, she does things on her own para we have something to talk about."

Gelli elaborated, "We're always together but we still have separate lives."

She added, "I also have to be independent. I'm his wife, I'm a mom, but I'm also Gelli. You need to be complete to give love. Kung hindi ka kumpleto, kung hindi ka naggu-grow, that's where the problems start I guess."

Gelli also revealed what kind of husband Ariel is to her. "Si Ariel kasi, he avoids getting into situations wherein...kasi hindi niya hilig pumarty o 'yung mag-socialize. That's a big plus for me kasi hindi ko na problemahin ang lahat ng mga parties na gusto niyang puntahan, kasi wala naman siyang gustong puntahan na party. Usually that's where the temptations start."

Ariel credits his father Ben Rivera as his role model. "We have one common goal. We're God-fearing. I was raised by my dad and I saw how much he loved my mom. 'Yun ang pinakita niya sa akin eh so that's the only role I know how to portray."

Aside from not having big fights, one thing they make sure to do is always communicate, even about money.

"We disagree about things but it doesn't have to get to the point where we have to fight," Gelli said.

When asked if she and Ariel talk about their finances, Gelli said, "Yes, you have to."

She also advised, "Never assume that your partner fully understood what you meant."

Ariel said, "We're not selfish kasi. We don't seek things from each other, I don't ask her things and I know she can't give and vice versa. If something comes up, it's brought up agad para hindi siya nagpapatong patong."
