Miss World Philippines national director Arnold Vegafria has taken to social media to warn people about people using his name and the Miss World Philippines organization to scam people during the aftermath of Typhoon Carina.
In a statement released on the different ALV Pageant Circle social media accounts, Vegafria warned that “unscrupulous individuals” have been suing his name and social media platforms to “solicit donations on behalf of Miss World Philippines for the Typhoon Carina victims.”
Vegafria clarified that he is not asking for donations on his social media accounts and advised people to ignore any requests using his name. He also shared that he is “in the process of investigating this heinous cybercrime”.
While unscrupulous individuals may be using Typhoon Carina as an opportunity to scam people, a number of celebrities have stepped up to help in the relief efforts for the victims that have been affected by the typhoon.
Current reigning Miss World Philippines Krishnah Gravidez's charity, Color of Kindness, is seeking donations for relief efforts for the animal victims of Typhoon Carina. Aside from food, water, medicines, and dog and cat food, the post called for financial support to buy the supplies needed.
Krishnah's call comes after animal welfare groups called on Filipinos to include pets and animals in their evacuation plans. Since posting, both calls to action of the Animal Kingdom Foundation and the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) have collectively gathered close to 45,000 shares.
Kapuso beauty queen and Philippine Red Cross ambassador Michelle Dee also posted on her official Instagram account boosting the efforts of the Philippine Red Cross as well as calling on her followers to do what they can to help “recover and rebuild”.
