For those of you who have an intermediate level of astrology knowledge, you probably already know this, but for astrology newbies, this may come as a surprise.

Yes, there's so much more to learn about astrology aside from the zodiac signs (including your rising sign and moon sign), but once you get the hang of it, you'd know how to best work with the current energies playing out.

New moon

The new moon may not be as majestic to marvel at compared to a full moon, but in astrology, it has a more favorable reputation.

The new moon phase is the time when the moon and the sun are conjunct in the same sign. For example, this coming June 21, the new moon will happen in the sign of Cancer.

While there is a very detailed forecast for what may occur at that time, this article will only focus on the general meaning of the new moon in astrology.

Astrologers deem the new moon phase as an auspicious time for beginnings. It's the best time to start a project or a business or begin a new career or hobby.

So, you'd hear a lot of astrologers advising people to “plant those seeds of intention” during the new moon.

Here's a more comprehensive explanation from astrologer Stormie Grace. The discussion about the new moon starts at 01:44.

Full Moon

The full moon phase occurs when the sun and the moon are on opposite sides of the Earth. And although you've probably heard rumors that full moons bring about unfortunate events, those are actually not entirely true.

In astrology, full moons are said to signal completions or endings. In most cases, you will see projects or events culminating during this time. Can you remember anything concluding in your life in the days leading up to or a few days after the full moon on June 5? Ending of your work from home set-up, maybe?

If new moons are auspicious for “planting seeds”, full moons can be considered as the “harvest time”.

For example, something that you may have been working on for weeks or months -like a deal you've been wanting to close or an online course you've enrolled in-- may finally be completed or finished.

Or, you may have applied for a job and have undergone screening and/or training, and during the full moon, the company might finally hire you.

Some of the less favorable things that may occur during the full moon phase are endings in relationships, jobs, businesses, and sometimes even the passing on of loved ones, pets, or acquaintances - but that's more likely to occur when the full moon is also an eclipse since eclipses are much more powerful.

The brighter side of things concluding during the full moon is that it may finally put an end to undesirable situations such as a nasty court battle, an abusive relationship, or a disease you've been suffering from.

Astrologer Heather from Astrolada gave a more detailed discussion about the full moon at the 12:55 mark in the video below.

Working with the moon phases

For some, it might be scary to be able to sort of foretell what will happen in the near future, especially if it can be an unfavorable one.

Are people born during the Year of the Horse unlucky this 2020?

But keep in mind that whenever there are endings, there are also beginnings. Life is a cycle of ups and downs, of triumphs and defeats.

So, what's the best advice when working with the energies of full moons and new moons? Prepare or plan for what you can, and then leave the rest to God.
