Barbie Forteza may be one of the country's most recognizable television stars, but she revealed that appearing in a stage production is still on her bucket list.
The Kapuso actress spoke about her interest in theater during the gala night of PETA's Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 4: Oh Sht! It's Live sa Cheter!, where she admitted she still has to overcome her fears before making her stage debut.
"I have dreams to be on theater. I just need to gather more courage and confidence maybe," she told GMA News Online.
For now, Barbie said she is content to wait until a project comes along that she truly feels is worth pursuing, especially since theater demands months of preparation.
"I'm just wishing and hoping for a very good material na worth it talagang pagkuhanan ng oras at araw. It takes a lot of rehearsals and all that," she said.
Asked if she already has a dream role in mind, Barbie said none has stood out to her yet. Still, she would not hesitate to say yes if the right material were offered.
"Nothing comes to mind yet. But again, if something good falls into my lap, I will definitely do it," she said.
Watching Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 4 also gave Barbie an even deeper appreciation for theater performers, saying audiences only get to see the finished production and not the countless hours of work behind it.
"Ang nakita natin 'yung finished product niya, pero 'yung paggawa niyan, mabusisi talaga. So I think mas 'yun 'yung kailangan ko pang paghandaan," she said.
She also praised the production for its clever storytelling and humor.
"It was so smart. It was so funny that you have to take it seriously. That's all I have to say. The rest, you just have to see for yourself," Barbie said.
She encouraged viewers to watch the play with family and friends, adding that sharing the experience with others makes it even more enjoyable.
"Ako kasi nanood ako tonight alone. I guess that's the one mistake I did. So when you watch this, make sure marami kayong kasama kasi ang gandang experience niya to share with so many," she said.
Barbie also expressed her delight over the growing appreciation for Philippine theater and said she hopes the local film industry continues to receive the same kind of support.
"I am very happy. Sana ganito rin ang pelikula," she said, adding that she enjoys watching straight plays and looks forward to seeing more productions.
