Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza hung out with icons Jodi Sta. Maria and Cherry Pie Picache in a recent episode of Kamuning Film Club vodcast.
The three stars opened up about the highs and lows of their acting journeys and what it took to reach the top-tier status they enjoy today.
In the said vodcast, Barbie shared her mission to prove she can stand alone as a versatile actress, moving beyond the “love team” mold.
She expressed that stepping out of her comfort zone to work without a partner allows her to showcase her true strength and caliber as a solo actress
“Ang sa'kin naman, sobrang grateful po ako. Ako naman po ay laging nagsimula, at laging bumabalik-balik sa love team. So, as someone who is here because she wants to be an actor, not to be in a love team, it's difficult for me na to keep breaking that mold na pang-love team lang,” Barbie expressed.
She continued by saying, “So, lagi kong pinu-push 'yung sarili ko na to do projects, to be in projects na kaya kong patunayan na kaya ko to stand on my own.”
Barbie also identified several milestones that solidified her standing as a powerhouse performer, proving her success is not dependent on being in a love team.
“That's why there's P77, Kontrabida Academy, na parang I want to put it out there na puwede n'yo akong kunin as an actress,” she shared.
The Kapuso star further noted her commitment to constant reinvention and her drive to venture into diverse genres for her future work.
“Para sa akin, I keep reinventing, I keep pushing myself na to do these different genres,” Barbie said.
“'Yung P77 po ay psychological horror. 'Yung Kontrabida Academy is dark comedy, camp. 'Yung recent teleserye ko po, Beauty Empire, murder-revenge drama naman siya,” she added.
She remains committed to proving that her status in the industry is well-earned through years of perseverance and hard work.
“Parang pinu-push ko po talaga 'yung sarili ko kahit parang hindi lahat ng tao nakikita. Parang lagi kong pinapatunayan na 'I deserve to be here,'” Barbie expressed.
Jodi added her perspective, stating that the screen pairings in Barbie's past projects acted as “vehicle” that propelled her career forward.
“'Yung parang love team, parang naging vehicle siya para sa'yo. Siyempre naging helpful din siya. But now, you really want to be known for you, for what you can do,” Jodi said.
Barbie shared her appreciation for the sentiment and wrapped up by emphasizing her desire for longevity in the craft, noting that acting is her ultimate calling.
“Sobra. Yes po! Since ito nga po 'yung gusto ko gawin, I want to be here like for the long run,” Barbie replied.
