Barbie Forteza breakthrough roles

Barbie Forteza took a trip down memory lane, highlighting the standout roles that proved her range and earned her a spot among the industry's renowned stars of today.

In a vodcast, Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza sat down with two of local showbiz's most renowned actresses, Jodi Sta. Maria and Cherry Pie Picache.

During their engaging online discussion, the three shared the highlights of their remarkable careers and their colorful journeys, filled with challenges and triumphs, before reaching their current status as renowned and incomparable actresses.

In one part of their conversation, Cherry Pie asked Barbie what she considers her “biggest break” as an artist.

Barbie Forteza immediately shared that she doesn't credit just a single project for her success; rather, it was a series of projects that paved the way and brought her to where she is in the industry today.

“Thankfully po, maraming.... hindi naman po kasi lahat magaganda or matataas ang reviews, pero hindi lang isang beses. Marami 'yung parang masasabi ko po na, times na, thankfully na napatunayan ko na 'I deserve to be here,'” Barbie shared.

Cherry Pie could not help but admire the actress' words, expressing her sentiment that artists should truly earn their positions in the industry through hard work.

“Ganda 'yung 'I deserve to be here.' Gusto ko 'yun, because you really have to earn your spot,” Cherry Pie said.

Barbie replied, saying: “I still work on it every day!”

The Kapuso actress also shared that she is deeply grateful for, and considers a major turning point in her career, being cast in the Kapuso Filipino adaptation of the hit Korean series, Stairway to Heaven.

“First is Stairway to Heaven. Nag-audition lang ako d'on, agent lang po ako no'n. 'Yun po 'yung unang sabak ko sa TV,” Barbie expressed.

Barbie also shared her experience in the indie film Mariquina, noting that it was this project that led to her being recognized and gaining the respect of several filmmakers in the country.

“Ako po ang young Miss Mylene Dizon. Young lang din po ako d'on. Maliit lang din po ang role ko d'on, pero doon ko po na-earn 'yung recognition and respect from very serious filmmakers and directors,” she shared.

The actress also considers the project Laut, directed by Louie Ignacio, as a major breakthrough in her career, as it earned her the “Best Actress” award at the 36th Fantasporto International Film Festival in 2016.

“Sama Dilaut naman kami roon, mga Badjao po kami, 'yun naman po 'yung Fantasporto, so kaya mas marami pong nakakilala sa akin na mga producers and filmmakers,” Barbie said.

Adding to her list of career milestones is the recent GMA period drama Maria Clara at Ibarra, a project Barbie credits for showcasing her versatility and earning widespread acclaim from the audience.

“Recent po is 'yung Maria Clara at Ibarra. 'Yun naman po 'yung parang nagbalik ng parang period drama sa TV. D'on din po nila nakita na 'Ay kaya niya mag-comedy habang umiiyak,' 'Ay kaya niya maglitanya ng mahaba,' gan'yan,” she shared.

Finally, the Kapuso actress stated that one of her proudest achievements is being recognized not only for her performance but also for her professionalism and character, both on and off camera.

“More than 'yung nakikita ng mga tao, more than the performance; ang masasabi ko pong proud din ako is katulad po ng sinabi ni Miss Cherry Pie, 'yung word of mouth ng mga nakakatrabaho ko, na maayos po akong katrabaho. Mas 'yun po,” Barbie said.
