Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental Gabrielle Basiano says her arrival look is a tribute to a figure in Egypt's history.
Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental Gabrielle Basiano looked stunning when she first arrived in Egypt for the Miss Intercontinental pageant, but the beauty queen is also making sure that her looks come with a story.
In one of her recent posts on her Instagram account, Gabrielle explained that her red arrival outfit dotted with pearls is actually a reference to Cleopatra, the last queen of Egypt. In the caption to the post, she wrote that Cleopatra was known to wear two pearl earrings and that the outfit was a tribute to “one of this country's greatest ruler.”
Aside from explaining her arrival outfit, Gabrielle's Instagram feed has been filled with the activities she has been doing so far in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, where the Miss Intercontinental pageant is being held. Gabrielle has posted a short clip of her in her accommodations, as well as her time spent with some of her fellow beauty queens.
The Miss Intercontinental coronation night is set to happen on October 14.
Gabrielle is seeking to repeat the victory “Cindy” Faye Obeñita managed in 2021. Cindy became the second Filipina to win the crown after Karen Gallman of Bohol first won the title in 2018.
Aside from Gabrielle, two other Filipina beauty queens are competing in international pageants next month. Binibining Pilipinas Globe Chelsea Fernandez will compete in the Miss Globe pageant in Albania on October 15, hoping to succeed current reigning Miss Globe Maureen Montagne.
Meanwhile, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International Roberta Tamondong will compete for the Miss Grand International crown on October 25. Should she win, she would be the first Filipina to do so. Last year's Binibining Pilipinas Grand International, Samantha Panlilio, did not make it into the top 20. The country's best performance in the Miss Grand International pageant has been with Samantha Bernardo, who was able to finish first runner-up.
