Bea Alonzo

Bea Alonzo related her recent weight gain to her being diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

Kapuso actress and Love Before Sunrise star Bea Alonzo revealed that her recent weight gain was caused by hypothyroidism, which she was recently diagnosed with.

In her most recent vlog, Bea revealed the stories behind some of her Instagram photos and one of which is a photo of her, her boyfriend Dominic Roque, and his friends playing tennis.

She mentioned that one of her New Year's resolutions was to pick up a new hobby and she started doing tennis with Dominic.

“I started doing tennis with Dom but unfortunately, si Dom kasi, badminton player siya. So dapat sabay kami natututo pero si Dom, sobrang galing na niya so hindi na'ko sumali uli kasi feeling ko I'm holding him down,” she said.

However, she said that she still wants to play doubles with her boyfriend someday, but that she's having a hard time running back and forth because she gained weight, which she revealed is caused by her hypothyroidism.

“Aside from having PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrom), I recently was also diagnosed with having hypothyroidism so that's the reason behind my gaining weight,” she said.

Hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid is a condition where a person's thyroid gland is not producing and releasing enough thyroid hormones that the body needs. This results in the metabolism of a person slowing down, making someone feel tired, gain weight, and making them unable to tolerate cold temperatures.

PCOS or polycystic ovary syndrome, meanwhile, is a condition in which the ovaries produce a high amount of the male sex hormones called androgens, usually present in women in small amounts. This also causes women to have difficulties getting pregnant.

Bea, however, assured everyone that she's already addressing her hypothyroidism “by working out, by dieting, and taking meds for it and supplements.”

“Wish me luck, sana matapos na siya,” she said.

She added, “Sa mga nagsasabi diyan na ba't ang taba na daw ni Bea, 'yun po 'yung reason, pasensya na kayo.”
