Despite her circumstance, Bea Rose Santiago remains optimistic about her health.

Years after announcing her kidney failure story, former Miss International Bea Rose Santiago gives an update about her health in a tell-all post on Instagram.

On the social media site, Bea said she's been having problems with her protein intake and now has “low phosphate, low hemoglobin, and having muscle aches.”

She added, “My doctors and nutritionist recommended many vegan options, but after two months, I am now a pescatarian on the weekends and vegetarian on weekdays.”

Bea relayed that she needed weekly Aranesp, a prescription medicine used to treat a lower than the usual number of red blood cells, and iron shots to help her dialyze five times a week.

Despite this, Bea remained optimistic about her health and said she recommends living by a plant-based diet as long as they get the proper dietary nutrition.

In 2018, Bea revealed that she's been undergoing dialysis after being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, prompting her to leave the country and receive the treatment in Toronto General Hospital.

She said, “I was diagnosed months ago. I was in denial, and thats why I left the Philippines to get a second opinion in Tokyo, and when it turned out to be a confirmation. I flew right away to be with my family and my potential live donors.

“Yes, I will need a life-saving transplant. I live because of a machine, my dialysis machine, and the doctors and nurses at Home Hemo Dialysis Centre in Toronto General. I am blessed, and I will continue to spread positivity to the world.

“I am not asking for sympathy; I am asking for awareness. At 16, I had IGA Nephropathy Stage 1. I suffered from UTI's when I was younger, food poisoning, and stress.

“Apparently, it's genetics and popular in Asians, so please get checked!”
