Ben&Ben reveals why Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos perfectly encapsulate their newest song 'Duyan'

Kapuso stars and real-life couple Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos will star in Ben&Ben's upcoming music video for their newest song “Duyan,” which will premiere today, January 22, at 6 p.m.

This is not the first time they starred in a music video for Ben&Ben, as they were also in the music videos of “Pagtingin” and “Araw-araw” which raises the question, why were Gabbi and Khalil the perfect couple to star in “Duyan?”

During the music video launch on January 21 at the White Barn Events Place in Marikina, Agnes Reoma, bass guitarist of the band, said that Miguel Guico wrote “Pagtingin” and “Duyan” for his wife, Karelle Bulan. And while the two Kapuso stars are yet to be married, they also parallel the stories depicted in the three music videos.

“Sakto din kasi parang although hindi pa naman sila kasal, parang sumasakto lang din na 'yung mga kanta namin ay papunta rin kung nasaan din sila in their lives. Parang it's the universe just -- hindi namin siya inisip noong una, parang we just wanted na dapat may music video 'yung Duyan and then 'Oo nga no, pasok siya,'” Agnes said.

She also expressed her gratitude to Gabbi and Khalil for taking the time to make the music video despite their busy schedules.

Miguel also noted the parallelism of their songs to Gabbi and Khalil's relationship.

“Basically, 'yung “Pagtingin,” halos sobrang bago pa lang sila nu'n in their relationship, and then 'yung “Araw-araw,” parang na-realize nila na it's one of those na feeling nila 'yun na 'yun. Pero of course, not until a lot of time has passed can you tell na it's really the one and the person for you,” Miguel shared.

He continued that even though Gabbi and Khalil have not yet married, they, along with their friends, are already in that phase of their lives, where they are getting engaged or married.

The band shared that “Duyan” is the third song in the Mahiwaga Trilogy, following “Pagtingin” and “Araw-araw,” although, speaking with GMANetwork.com, Miguel admitted that it was not their intention.

“Nu'ng una, akala namin natapos na 'yung kuwento sa Araw-araw. Pero nu'ng dumating itong kantang ito, tapos dumating din 'yung pinaplano namin, 'yung aming magandang concept around it, lalo na 'pag sa music video, ganiyan, du'n din nabuo 'yung realization na part three siya ng Mahiwaga Trilogy.” Miguel said.

He added that even in the music video, the progression of the story of Gabbi and Khalil's characters were shown from the first two songs in “Duyan.”

Asked if they have already conveyed the story they wanted to share through the three songs, percussionist Andrew De Pano shared that while their songs are influenced by what's happening in their lives, the stories they convey in their songs are reflections of what's happening in their lives.

“We were off the period of new relationships, new love, starting to make promises, telling our partners-to-be na 'Pipiliin kita araw-araw,'” Andrew said.

He added that with “Duyan,” they've already learned to choose their partners, knowing that it is not an easy choice to make.

“It's not a choice you make once and 'yun na 'yun. It's a culmination of day after day of choosing to be that partner, 'yung hindi mo akalaing puwedeng pinapangarap na 'Gusto ko ng kasama, gusto ko ng kayakap.' You have to be that person also for that person,” Andrew said.

He added, “And Duyan is a song that reminds whoever is listening that in the difficult times, in happy times, you are each other's duyan. Kayo 'yung tahan ng isa't isa. And that's something that you build over years, over many, many lifetimes over.”
