Folk-pop band Ben&Ben is set to release the music video of their newest song titled “Duyan” today, January 22, at 6 p.m.

The band shared that the song was actually written by lead vocalist and half of the twins Miguel Benjamin Guico, for his wife, Karelle Bulan, three days before their wedding.

“I was on the way home, and I realized na wala pa akong vows. Alam ko 'yung asawa ko competitive kasi 'yun, so alam kong maganda 'yung vows niya. So sabi ko, 'Nako, 'di ko matatapatan 'yun,' Miguel shared during the music video launch on January 21 at the White Barn Events place in Marikina City.

Miguel admitted that with their busy schedule preparing for the wedding, he was not able to prepare his vows and was not able to think about what he wanted to say to his then wife-to-be.

The singer-songwriter recalled that he was parked somewhere for three hours, writing the whole song in his car.

“Pero nu'ng gabing 'yun, nu'ng pauwi na ako, nagmula du'n sa melody, na naging melody ng chorus, lumabas talaga lahat, as in. Kagaya ng mga hindi mo nalalabas na emosyon, nakakaiyak din siya, parang nakaka-overwhelm,” Miguel shared.

Miguel married Karelle in 2023, and the band admitted that the most challenging part for them was deciding whether to release the song, especially since it's very personal to Miguel.

What made them decide to release "Duyan" three years later?

Miguel answered, “Sa palagay lang namin, panahon na siyang ilabas kasi kagaya ng mga kanta, 'pag nilabas mo na siya, hindi mo na siya kwento, e. Kwento na siya ng iba't ibang tao na makaka-relate du'n sa song, makaka-connect, ma-co-connect 'yun sa mga event nila sa buhay nila, and I feel lang na maganda 'yung mensahe nu'ng kanta."

In a separate interview with GMANetwork.com, Miguel admitted that they're nervous about the release of the song.

“Siyempre, 'pag nilabas mo rin 'yun, wala ka nang control kung papaano siya tatanggapin ng mga tao. Pero ang hope namin is maka-connect siya sa mga buhay nila, lalo na sa mga nasa phase of life na 'to, sa mga ikakasal,” Miguel said.

He continued, “Kasi, sinulat namin talaga siya well hindi naman para sa kanila, primarily dahil nga napaka-personal niya. Pero sinulat namin siya nu'ng nandu'n kami sa time na 'yun ng buhay namin and so excited din, sobrang excited kami na finally, we put it out there. It's been three years since this song was written kaya finally lalabas na."

While Miguel wrote the song for his wife, he shared that “Duyan” is about having an ally in life, through the good and the hardships they will face.

“Whether mahirap, whether panahon ng kahirapan, panahon ng ginhawa, panahon na malungkot kayo, mabigat, panahon na sobrang maligaya n'yo, kasama mo 'yung isang tao. And I feel like a journey in marrying someone is like that, kasama mo siya sa laban.

"'Tapos kapag pinakinggan mo 'yung song, dadalhin ka niya du'n sa biyahe na 'yun, Mula sa umpisa hanggang sa 'yung moment na sa harap ng Diyos, pinangako mo na magiging kakampi mo at kanlungan mo ang isang tao," he concluded.
