The Fil-Aussie athlete told his followers on Instagram the story of his big move to the Philippines five years ago “with nothing but dreams and uncertainty.”

“#tbt Today marks 5 years since I decided to try life in the Philippines. Came here with nothing but dreams and uncertainty. And have gotten more than I could've hoped for. I can't stress enough how much I believe Filipinos around the world should try and embrace their Filipino-side,” he wrote.

Benj shared that he came to the Philippines without knowing a single word of Filipino, and now he is starting to lose the habit of speaking in straight English.

“I came here with almost 0 tagalog, and now I'm starting to forget how to speak straight English."

But the best thing that happened to him while living in the country is meeting his wife, Kapuso star Rich Asuncion and being blessed with a daughter, Bela.

"Above all else, this country has given me you @richasuncionmudie my wife, and Bela, my daughter. My everything. Highs and lows, I wanna say daghan/marami salamat to you Philippines! Forever ka nasa puso ko,” he said.

Benj and Rich welcomed their firstborn Bela last December 2018.

#tbt Today marks 5 years since I decided to try life in the Philippines 🇵🇭 Came here with nothing but dreams and uncertainty. And have gotten more than I could've hoped for ❤️ I can't stress enough how much I believe filipinos around the world should try and embrace their filipino-side. Its shown me to be grateful for the things I have, not envious of the things I don't. Life is a blessing and having choices are a privilege. I came here with almost 0 tagalog, and now I'm starting to forget how to speak straight english. Above all else, this country has given me you @richasuncionmudie my wife, and Bela, my daughter. My everything. Highs and lows, I wanna say daghan/marami salamat to you Philippines! Forever ka nasa puso ko ❤️ . .
