Kapuso heartthrob Benjamin Alves has proven his skillfulness in dramatic acting through shows like Beautiful Strangers and movies like Sana Dati. While he considers these roles as great learning experiences, he’s happy to be able to play the happy-go-lucky and slightly superficial Jay in the sexy sitcom A1 Ko Sa’yo.

“[Jay is] conscious sa katawan niya. 'Yun lang talaga alam niya – pag-wo-workout, pag-gym… Ako, [talagang] wine-welcome ko 'yung ganitong character kasi ibang-iba siya sa [mga] character na ginagawa ko [na usually] ang lalim na agad, may angst, may galit,” he said.

According to him, some people are unsure if he can portray a comedic role well, but he has accepted the challenge of showing what he’s capable of in the genre.

“People were very skeptical na ‘Uy, makakagawa ba siya ng comedy?’ I think [naman na] I’m really funny in person so sana mag-translate 'yun on TV. Alam kong may side ako na ganun eh – na light, na hindi masyadong seryoso, na nakakatawa. So sana makita ng tao 'yun at sana magbukas ng ibang opportunity para sa ‘kin,” he shared.

The Kapuso leading man thinks that the Thursday night show is more than just a change in the nature of his roles, but is also an offering that gives viewers something different in the primetime lineup.
