Benjamin Alves and his dad

“I hope you're proud Dad; I wish a Doc Migs was around when you really needed it the most.” Benjamin Alves poured out his feelings in a heartfelt message he wrote for his father and grandmother.

Benjamin Alves reveals that his Owe My Love character as Doc Migs hits close to home as his father passed away due to a heart attack while his lola suffered dementia.

In the Kapuso rom-com series, Benjamin breathes life into Doc Migs, a cardiothoracic surgeon, a doctor who generally performs surgeries of the heart and chest, as well as a doting grandson who looks after his Lolo Badong who has middle-stage dementia. He can deeply relate these scenarios to his personal experiences after losing his father to heart attack back in 2018, and witnessing his lola suffer from dementia.

He penned a message dedicated to his late loved ones, saying, “I bet you would've found the poetic irony of my being a cardiothoracic surgeon in this series funny. I would have loved to get your consultation on the terminology if you were alive today.

"In short (and pun intended), this role really hits close to my heart.

"I hope you're proud Dad; I wish a Doc Migs was around when you really needed it the most.

"But God's plans are always righteous.

"I hope you hear the things I never got to say to you through my relationship with Lola Badong. I hope you see how much I wanted to say I love you but never could. I wish I could've taken better care of you the way Migs does to his Lolo. Still, I hope you are happy with me as your son."

Benjamin also expressed his remorse for his lola.

“I hope Lola enjoys the series as well. Please tell her I miss her. Tell her I'm sorry for raising my voice whenever her dementia was acting up. Tell her I was still so young to understand everything. Tell her I see her every time I do a scene dealing dementia in this show. Tell her I'm more patient now. Tell her I always wanted her to be safe.

"I hope she's as happy as she was the last time I saw her. And though she never got the chance to see me on TV, I hope she's watching every night with you.”

The Kapuso actor also opened up about his personal experiences in the hopes to inspire love among the viewers of Owe My Love.

“Kapuso, I hope you are enjoying our show. I hope you learn to love Doc Migs, and maybe in some scenes see a little piece of the real me in his character. I hope you're falling in love, just like us, in each scene that we do.

“Thank you for the support and we hope we make you proud, Kapuso.”
