For Benjamin Alves, being the Ambassador of the GMA Network Excellence Award (GNEA) last year was a humbling experience. But he admits he is more than excited to be part of this year’s search for the deserving recipient of the award.
Benjamin remains to be the GNEA Ambassador for the second year after he renewed his contract earlier today, February 13, in GMA. Present at the signing were GMA Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon, GMA Senior AVP for Alternative Productions Miss Gigi Santiago-Lara, GMA Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Communications Angela Javier Cruz, and Mercator Artist and Model Management President and CEO Jonas Gaffud.
In an interview with GMA News, the Kapuso actor shared what he looks for in the next GNEA awardee.
Benjamin said, “If there’s any one characteristic para doon sa magiging awardee ng GMA Network Excellence Award this year, sana po there is focus. Last year, that’s the very thing I took away from [this]. Kasama po namin si Kuya Dingdong (Dantes) sa panel po to interview all the finalist, and I think that’s what really stood out to me, na ‘yung estudyante na pinili po namin, may focus po siya sa school, sa mga extracurricular activities po niya, sa ano po ‘yung gusto niyang gawin after college.”
GNEA welcomes any aspirant who is a bona fide Filipino graduating student (AY 2016-2017) of Mass Communication, Multi-Media Arts, Advertising, or any equivalent course, and Electronics Communications Engineering. The applicant must be graduating with honors and active in socio-civic activities.
Moreover, Benjamin encourages future candidates to be honest with their stories.
He said, “Kasi from my experience last year, pretty much lahat po sila, they’re very deserving because of their accolades, their accomplishments in class, in the classroom. I think the very minimum was a Magna Cum Laude. Pero what really sets some of the students apart was their story, their personal story, at kung papaano po nila ginagamit ‘yung story nila to help, inspire, influence others."
