Comedian Albert "Betong'' Sumaya Jr. partly attributes his happiness to him being able to balance his being thrifty and him knowing when to reward himself.

After he played with his Bubble Gang co-stars on Don’t Lose the Money, he shared with GMANetwork.com how he tries to manage his money wisely and where his monthly earnings go.

1. The bills

According to Betong, during each pay day, it is imperative to first set aside the amount you’ll need for household expenses and utilities.

“Dapat meron kang pangbayad sa kuryente, sa tubig, sa association dues, sa cellphone. ['Yung] mga ganun [muna] 'yung iisipin ko,” he said.

2. A big investment

The Bubble Gang mainstay believes in reaping the fruits of his labor. This made him decide to get a condominium unit for himself. “Dapat talaga maging wais ka sa mga kinukuha mo, mga pinupurchase mo… Ako, may condo ako ngayon na hinuhulugan ko,” he shared.

Having a long-term investment serves both as a reward and a motivation to keep working harder. “Ngayon, [inspired] ako na mas rumaket ng rumaket,” he added.

3. Self-reward

Though he believes in being money smart, he also thinks that he deserves to reward himself. “Kailangan mo din naman i-enjoy 'yung [sweldo mo]. Bili ka ng mga bagong gamit paminsan-minsan, manood ng sine,” he noted.

In his case, he has a Coca-Cola collection that quite a number of people have already learned about. Because it has gained the attention of some friends and fans, he is thankful because they, too, contribute to his collection. “Nakakatuwa kasi marami na ring nagbibigay. Bawas gastos,” he said.

For him, no matter how much or little you make, it takes a certain consciousness to be money smart. “I see to it na hindi lang ako basta nag-wi-withdraw. Kailangan meron din akong dinedeposit,” he declared.
